The Walt Disney Family Museum is intended to illustrate the life and career of Walt Disney. Not only will his professional and creative accomplishments be showcased, but his personal life will be presented as well. A unique feature of the Museum will be extensive use of Walt Disney's own words and image, recorded throughout his life.

In addition to the Museum, the Walt Disney Family Foundation intends the facility to sponsor events and screenings, panel discussions and lectures, book signings, and publications and media. The intent is to keep Walt Disney's innovative spirit alive through the 21st century. A special outreach program will help school children to understand "the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts" that were so much a part of Walt Disney's zeal for life and innovation in his career.

The Walt Disney Family Museum is being built within an historic barracks building in San Francisco's Presidio. The area, now administered by the National Park Service, is one of natural beauty and historic import.
