The media was invited to tour the drained lagoon. Chuck Davis, Technical Producer for the World of Color and Sayre Wiseman, Director, Show Production for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment offered information about the massive undertaking. The 400 foot long, 120 foot wide platform is about 2/3 installed and plumbed. To preserve the daytime vistas over the lagoon, the entire platform was designed with an ingenious series of chambers that allow it to be floated into one of four positions: hidden below the surface, show level, water level, and above the surface for maintenance. Sensors based on hydrostatic pressure can position the tables relative to the water level, so even if the lagoon is flooded with rain, or lower due to evaporation, the show level is maintained. Four scissor lift mechanisms (two north/south, two east/west), designed at angles to preserve stability, will take about ten minutes to move all the tables into position.

Reporters were given a peek below the surface of the platform, which is currently resting at hidden level.

[c. DISNEY] The large blue tanks can be quickly flooded with water or evacuated with air for active flotation. The black tanks, in variable sizes, are custom designed to maintain proper flotation for the wide variety of equipment carried on the platform. Scissor lift guides maintain the platforms stability and position. A Submersible Utility Bay (SUB) in the center holds the major distribution of power, controls, air and logic for the show. Most of the gear in the SUB is remotely controlled and monitored, although it can be accessed through an air tight hatch
