1999 Disney Legend Announcement

On Wednesday, November 9th, Disney will present its 1999 Disney Legend Awards (Note: This event is not open to the public). The awards will be presented by Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Eisner and Disney Vice Chairman Roy E. Disney.
The Disney Legend Award, first given in 1987, is awarded to individuals who have made major contributions to the Disney company over the years. The individuals are recognized by placing bronze emblems in the sidewalk in from the Studios theater and having honorees put their signatures and handprints in the cements.
This year's recipients include:
- Tim Allen (Home Improvement, The Santa Clause, Toy Story)
- Mary Costa (voice of Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty)
- Al Konetzni (creative executive: consumer products)
- Dick Nunis (former president: Disneyland, Walt Disney World)
- Charlie Ridgway (publicist: Disneyland, Walt Disney World)
Posthumous awards will go to:
- Norm Ferguson (animator: Pinocchio, Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan)
- Bill Garity (creator of the Cinephone recording system and the multiplane camera)
- Yale Gracey (Imagineer, special effects: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean)
- Ham Luske (animator: Fantasia, Cinderella, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians)
Past recipients include Ub Iwerks, Marc Davis, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Rogger Broggie, Dick Irvine, the Sherman Brothers, Julie Andrews, Van France, Peter Ellenshaw, Wally Boag and many others.
