and will rise with you as the new king."
In the wide world of Disney the big news last week was not good news. According to several reports, Disney is looking to trim as much as $400 million in costs over the next few years. Local newspapers have reported preliminary talks are underway for them to sell the Anaheim Angels baseball team and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks hockey team might not be far behind. As the Orange County Register put it "Combined, the Ducks and Angels collect less revenue than one summer animated blockbuster like Tarzan, and they don't hold the potential of that Christmastime video-reissue bonanza."
On a brighter note, the official press release for the New Year's Even gala showing of Fantasia 2000 went out last week. Even at $2,000 per plate (proceeds to go to CalArts) I think everyone in attendance will find it worthwhile. Unfortunately, most of us will have to settle for seeing Roy E. Disney, head of Disney Feature Animation, in the Tournament of Roses Parade as Grand Marshall. Uncle Walt would be proud of both accomplishments.
We've got a lot of stuff on LaughingPlace.com this week. Hopefully, you'll find at least some of it to your liking.
First up is this week's Trivia Contest. This week's theme is the Walt Disney World of the 60s and 70s. Entries are due by Saturday. By the way, a new trivia contest automatically appears on the site each Sunday morning, so get your entries in early. In the case of a tie, the first one in wins. Next week's contest will feature questions relating to Disney films, television and stage.
A new Online Poll is also up. This week's question asks what your favorite Walt Disney World theme park is. As a reminder, a new poll appears every Saturday. Also be sure to check out our Sites of the Week featuring Disney beanie sites.
On Wednesday, Rebekah brings you her column Forever Magical where she'll talk about the recently completed NFFC convention. Later in the week we'll post the final article in our Haunted Mansion series and a feature on the dedication of Walt Disney's Barn at Griffith Park in Los Angeles.
Before I sign off I need to congratulate the winners of our first two trivia contests. Disneyexpert won the first contest. He was the only player to get all 15 questions correct. HopeMax won contest #2. Congratulations to both of you!
