‘TWAS A WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS
By Ebenezer Wickham

With just one week to Christmas
you scramble and scurry
to finish your shopping,
your senses all blurry.

What to get for your cousin,
your aunt and your barber?
An Olszewski castle!
Doh! They’re stuck in the harbor!

What’s that up ahead
past the pretzel boutique?
Oh it just a bookstore,
that’s nothing unique.

Ah, that’s where you’re wrong!
So before your despair
it’s of last minute treasures
I will make you aware.

For tucked away waiting
on book seller’s shelves
are some overlooked gems
that speak for themselves.

Come discover a list
of my personal faves
Some you’ll know, some you won’t.
All are sure to get raves.

You may have to look
on Alibris for some.
But Rebekah’s stocked up
on many a plum.

While this isn’t a plug
for the LaughingPlace Store,
why deny the convenience
for books, and much more?!

So sit back and relax
as best as you can
and I’ll list some great books
for a true Disney fan.

Since time’s of the essence
We’ll list seven, that way
your shopping breaks down
to just one book a day!

We’ll start with the oldest -
not that oldest is best -
but you might need to hunt
while you order the rest.

"The Art of Animation"
Not the more recent tome,
but the one that should be
in each Disneyac’s home.

Published way back
in nineteen-fifty-eight
when Walt’s Nine Old Men
were still working late.

Penned by Bob Thomas
and Golden Press printed,
a good copy’s costly
but well worth, as I’ve hinted.

This insider’s guide
to cartoon mechanics
promotes Sleeping Beauty,
and some pics are panics!

But fashions on paint gals
Aside for a minute,
you’ll treasure the archival
facts that are in it.

That’s number seven
working bottom to top.
On to the next.
There’s just six days to shop!

Next on the list
is a pair of soft covers
especially made for
Lost Empire lovers.

I know that you’re out there,
I’m a Milo fan, too!
But you’ll have to look hard
on the shelves for these two.

They ARE still in print
(I had to list some)
pocket sized and soft cover
they’re really quite fun!
