September 17, 2004, at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, the 2004 Disney Legends Ceremony was held in the Legends Plaza, directly across from the Dwarf Building aka Team Disney Building. Though the day began overcast, by the middle of the ceremony the sun was shining brightly causing guests to remark that it was truly a Walt Day.
Disney CEO Michael Eisner
Michael Eisner greeted the honorees, their families, former Disney Legends and invited guests. He then explained the meaning of the award given to the Legends, saying the spiral stands for imagination, the power of an idea, the hand holds the gift of skill, discipline and craftsmanship. while the wand and the star represent magic, the spark that is ignited when imagination and skill combine to create a new dream. He stated that the only way to get this award is by being the best of the best at a company that has always dedicated itself to offering the best in entertainment. Today's ceremony gave particular recognition to those Legends, who work at Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Studios. Therefore it seemed appropriate to have the presentation of these awards given by heads of these two divisions, Marty Sklar and Dick Cook, who have worked in the company for a combined total of 81 years. Mr. Eisner then introduced the President, Bob Iger, as well as his very own Legend Award, his wife, Jane Eisner.
