Tapestry of Nations

Songs
This is certainly the hardest category because there are so many to choose from and it's easy to forget some. But I'll do my best.

  • Candle on the Water: Always the first song to come in my mind when I think of my favorites. I remember playing this sappy ballad over and over again trying to learn all the words. I did ... but have since forgotten some of them. Just a simple, pretty song.
  • Makin' Memories: "Long, before, the old Model T" - I heard this song hundreds of times before I knew it was connected with an attraction. Just really, really fun to listen to.
  • Tapestry of Dreams / Nations: Probably my favorite piece of instrumental music, period. Builds and builds and builds with great interludes throughout. I can listen again and again.
  • What's This?: "What's This?!?"
  • James: Rebekah hates this song. I love it. One of the few cases where I saw the film and heard the song for the first time together. So when I hear the song, I see James and it makes me sad, and it makes me happy.
  • Out There: Maybe because I saw Festival of Fools so many times at Disneyland. A very emotional song.
  • I Won't Say (I'm in Love): This little number, in a Disney film about Hercules? I really, really like this one. In fact, I did a countdown on LaughingPlace Radio of love songs around Valentine's Day, and this was my number one.
  • You'll Be In My Heart: "Just look over your shoulder...". So sweet. This and the next song ... who says Disney doesn't have great mother figures?
  • Babe Mine: One of the saddest songs and one of saddest moments in film. Beautiful.
  • Underrated: I'll Try: Sappy, out of place, so what? I love this song from Return to Neverland. In fact, if I were making a mix tape right now of Disney songs, this would be the first song on it.

One Happy Guy!

Misc.
Some stuff doesn't fit into any other category, but still belongs on a list of my favorite Disney things.

  • Sit in the Grand California Lobby: Do it all the time. Once did it all-night while watching the Christmas Tree go up. Beautiful, elegant but comfortable and I love watching happy people on vacation.
  • Boat Ride from Downtown Disney to Port Orleans: Rebekah and I did this once having no idea what we were doing. We were alone on the boat with the driver. She told us some great stories as we floated leisurely down the bayou. Another "Are we really in Disney World?" moment.
  • Pontoon Boats: Wish I'd discovered this one sooner. Go to the Grand Floridian, see my favorite hotel, then pop outside and rent a pontoon boot on go all over Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Get some great views of the Magic Kingdom and all the area hotels - especially the Wilderness Lodge (the reverse of the view I described above). As relaxing as can be ... and I get to drive the boat!
  • Contemporary Roof: Apparently you can't go up here for fireworks anymore. I don't know about other times. I love to go up during the day just for the view. Watch the Magic Kingdom for a while. Find the other parks. Try to figure out what all the construction is around the area. I'm afraid of heights yet I always feel very comfortable up here, even when the wind is blowing.
  • Main Street Porch: I wrote about this place in a previous Editor's Report. The primo people watching spot in all of Disney.
  • The Holidays: There is no better time to visit the parks. Decorations galore. Small World Holiday. Haunted Mansion Holiday. Osborne Lights. The Grand Floridian tree. Carolers. The Christmas Parade. Happy people. Happy Doobie.
  • El Capitan Theater: Drive up to Hollywood which is much improved, but still dirty. Squeeze my "large" bottom into a tiny seat. Watch a cheesy show or after the film visit a high tech play area. Adds up to a wonderful, unique Disney experience. Also great when they show classic Disney films. The first time I saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was on this big screen (good thing too - I probably would've stopped the tape)
  • WDW Resort Transporation: Specifically the Monorail and the boats. We rent a car every trip, but I still prefer to use these when available (and reasonable fast) because it's much more fun.
  • Club 33: I didn't put this under restaurants because it's private and therefore more of an experience, in my opinion. It's best at brunch where I can get all the made-to-order pasta I want. I like to go out on the balcony and look at happy people down below,. and remind myself just how lucky I am to be able to have visited this place several times (using someone else's membership, of course) that 6 years ago I would've paid tons of money to get into.
  • Underrated: DisneyQuest: After the hotels, this is my favorite part of going to Walt Disney World. All the fancy stuff is fine, but so are the ticket games and Replay Zone and just sitting up in the food area and watching it all. Disneyland is wonderful because you can have fun even when you're not going on rides. So is DisneyQuest. I think that's high praise.

In Conclustion
I love Disney. What else is there to say?
