The ABC Soap Opera Bistro
Over in Hollywood we dined at the ABC Soap Opera Bistro. I dont watch soaps but really enjoyed myself despite that fact. We ate on the Port Charles set. It was a dimly lit wharf. We could hear the surf crashing on the pier beneath us. Every so often we could hear seagulls. The background music was from the show soundtrack and is different on each set (room). I ate a salmon salad with Wasabe vinaigerette. It was very tasty and a solid portion of food. Partway through the meal a group of actors entered the room and began overacting. They dragged several audience members into their melodrama scenario of ex-wives, lost children. In fact our friend Stacey, who was wearing a really bizarre hat, was labeled a tragic medical experiment. Their performance had our table giggling for the rest of the evening and Im afraid poor Stacey will never live down that title. Our server was a familiar face from Disneyland, Bob whom we all knew from Carnation Café. I think that is another thing I love about Disneys California Adventure, the cast members. I encountered so many helpful cast members but even more than that I encountered familiar cast members. For example it was such a treat to walk up to the Boardwalk games and realize that the barker for the Dolphin game was Dan, the candy man. I used to tap the glass and wave hello to him as he made candy on Main Street. It was so nice to see him in the new park.
Eureka!
Daily, Eureka! the California Adventure Parade journeys through the Park inviting people to "Come Away with Me". The spirit of California invites guests to discover their dreams in the diversity of California. She is portrayed as a African American lady with arms outstretched, as a blond female driving along the beach in a convertible, as a graceful Asian lady, and as a beautiful Latina. The parade music reflects the various cultures. Famous landmarks are represented including the Hollywood Bowl and the Golden Gate Bridge. The parade celebrates all that is good about California and fuels hope in our future. As we headed to the next attraction after the parade's conclusion I was still humming the parade melody and singing the few lyrics I did pick up. In fact I have continued to do so throughout the past week.
Before we left the Park Doobie and I sat underneath the Golden Gate bridge waiting for some friends to finish shopping. I once again enjoyed singing along to the California tunes and watching the wave underneath the Golden Sun. During our day at Disneys California Adventure I got to see and experience why even though I wasnt born here I have been and always will be a California girl.
