KC Sanders interview - A KC of All Trades
With the addition of the Print on Demand system and the Internet kiosks to this new venue I had a few questions and was also able to get a few minutes with KC Sanders, Merchandise Special Events and Product Marketing Manager for the Disneyland Resort.

KP - Print on Demand is now in this new venue with new art. Can you describe the new art?

KC - Well, we have a couple of different options for new art this time. We have Disney film cells, so, it’s like the different movies, the classic movies… we have Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, and Snow White and Pluto and Mickey sketches. We’ll also have 100 Mickeys coming to this location September 9th… all 56 of the attraction posters will be here.

KP - This will be a duplicate location to the Disneyland Gallery then?

KC - This is actually going to be the central point for Print on Demand. Every image that’s available on Print on Demand will be available here at the new Premiere Shop.

KP - Including the new art - whatever comes into the Gallery in October?

KC - Including the new Nightmare Before Christmas exhibit in October.

KP - Very nice!

KC - Yeah, so there are 99 images that have never been available - well… some have been available to the public, but there are a couple of images that have never been available to the public in the Nightmare Before Christmas / Haunted Mansion Gallery - you’re getting this exclusive right now because we haven’t released it yet. (I checked to see if we could run this and KC said “You sure can.?)

KP - Explain the Kids Art on Demand.

KC - Kids Art on Demand, what you do is, kids or adults, I mean, we wanted it for kids but adults can go color too.

KP - So, there’s no age range on kids?

KC - No, there’s no age range on kids, no. There’s a piece of paper there that has kind of a silhouette of Mickey or Pooh, we’re actually working on some Stitch ones now, some different characters and you can actually go and color the character.

KP - It’s sort of a coloring book template?

KC - Yeah, you color it. You can put your name on it. We don’t want any outside characters, but you can draw Disney characters if you’d like to. Then you take it over to the kiosk… the cast member will scan it for you and give you a code you can go back to the kiosk and you can choose up to six boarders, vertical or horizontal. There are two different sizes - 27 x 36-inches and then 36 x 48-inches and the small size is $35 and the large size is $45, just like the Print on Demand at the Gallery.

KP - You can do it on fine art paper and canvas?

KC - Actually just on paper, not on canvas. Just because, you know, $125 is a little much for a piece of kids’ art. It’s more a piece of poster art, or you can get it nicely framed.

KP - Have there been any changes in the system since it was installed in the Gallery?

KC - The screens have all been updated, so it’s a lot easier to order your print and navigate. The prints actually come off faster... Actually, the prints come off at about 10 minutes now off the printer. Canvas takes still about 15 to 20 minutes to dry but the paper is 10 minutes… so you can wait here for their art.

Just to let your readers know, this location is not sponsored by FedEx but the Disney Gallery is sponsored by FedEx just for the 100 Mickeys exhibit.

KP - So when Nightmare comes in free shipping goes away?

KC - Right, yes. Just to let everyone know about that. So, if they want to ship home a hundred Mickeys, now would be the time to go, before September 8th.

KP - Will Product on Demand be available here as well? For t-shirts and sweatshirts and stuff?

KC - Actually we’re looking for that in the future with the embroidery machine.

KP - For personalized lanyards and pin bags and such?

KC - Yeah, we’re looking at that for like a phase two of the Premiere Shop. We also have some other ideas that I can’t disclose yet…

KP - But, you will disclose them to us when the time is right?

KC - Absolutely, yes.

KP - Is there anything that’s new on the web site that you want to share?

KC - With the opening of this store and on line at officialdisneypintrading.com is open - but you can actually get there a different way now, so you don’t have to know how to spell everything. Disney.com will get you there as well… and if you’re an avid user you can save the home page on your URLs. Like, if you get past the flash and get to the home page, save that into your favorites, then you don’t have to go through the flash if you’re an avid user… just one of the tricks of the trade.

All events will be posted on there so that everyone can get all of the general information and then we’ll still be letting our information out all the other ways too. But, if you want to see the official you go there, but check out everyone else’s too.

KP - Thanks KC.

KC - Any time.
