LP: You all seem to have a great, collaborative and charismatic rapport on stage as well. Just watching you interact during your sets is entertainment in itself…it seems you’re all having fun with one another.

Denis: We definitely have fun, it makes the job easy.

Tim: I think we’re pretty genuine when we’re on stage as far as the energy we put out, because the audience feels what we’re feeling, ‘cause we’re creating it and it’s just something we tap into as much as the audience does.

LP: Is it easier to feed off it when you find the audience as energetic and participatory?

Barrage: Oh yeah.

Errol: The quality of the show quadruples when you’ve got a killer audience!

LP: Does that rapport continue off stage, on tour, etc?

Tim: We’re all pretty good at touring, like, we’ve done it all a fair bit, too.

Lynae: The dynamics are very much family, you know, like a big family.

Tim: We’re more friends than enemies.

Lynae: And you learn how to have your space even in close quarters…putting your headphones on or reading a book and you say “I don’t want to talk right now, I just want to have some time to myself.”

Allison: Especially when you’re on a bus for a forty-hour trip, you know?

Lynae: You just have to learn how to do it diplomatically, so you don’t hurt peoples’ feelings.

LP: How about your stage styles? Are they actually stage styles, or your own individual styles?

Denis: This is us.

Tim: Yeah, we do whatever.

Denis: Like, I would never wear this just as a normal, everyday outfit, but on stage I’m comfortable, so…. (Shrug).

Lynae: I would, I’d wear this walking around.

Allison: I think it’s about individuality on stage.

Errol: You take your individual persona and kind of boost it up a little bit.

Tim: Just like any performer.

LP: What do you find is the general age range of your audiences?

Group: From about eight to eighty.

LP: Were you surprised initially to find fans of younger ages?

Tim: Yeah I was, definitely. There’s a lot of young people I would have assumed would have been into something totally different, but I think a lot of kids are looking for certain things like energy, intensity and a good look, and I think we have all those. I see kids that are five to ten and early/late teens that are all really goin’ nuts over it and really enjoying it just because we are so genuine.

Allison: And I think it’s because we’re young too. We were all hired young.

Tim: We’re not an old-time fiddle band, you know? They can relate with us. (Laugh)

Errol: The fact that it is seven fiddles really…a lot of older, especially seniors, really appreciate the fact of the violins themselves, it’s almost…they’ll follow the instrument. And they also appreciate the fact that the kids react to us the way they do.

LP: Where would you like to be in another year?

Errol: I wanna go to Disneyland!
(All laugh)

Denis: In a year I’d like to be playing big coliseums. I don’t really want to compare us to anybody, but if I was going to I’d like to sort of reach for a Riverdance kind of phenomenon, where it’s a flashy show where people can just come and enjoy themselves…spend two hours just watching a great stage show. That’s what I’d like to do.

Roxanne: Usually our shows are about two hours long, so it’s also kind of nice to get 45 minute shows [here at Disneyland]. But I think I prefer in general having full two-hour shows. Feels more finished, more like a full production. It’s a lot more upbeat here with such short sets.

LP: Anything else you’d like to leave our readers with?

Barrage: Come see us! You’ll like it!

Barrage

You’ll never forget it! Accurate enough, I’ve positively not forgotten their last visit to Disneyland, and I eagerly look forward to their return performances this weekend. Truth be told, their CD is still a staple selection of my driving music! I’m pretty certain when I can get my hands on their next album it will be added to that roster as well. Barrage is unquestionably one Disneyland act you won’t want to miss. Catch them through December 29th at Tomorrowland Terrace.
