Ellen Way
Good morning. On behalf of California Women for Agriculture I'd like to thank each and every one of you for being here with us today. I can't think of a better place and a more beautiful day to celebrate the first day of Spring. I would especially like to thank the leaders of two of our state's largest agricultural organizations, the president of California Farm Bureau Federation Bill Pauli and the president of Western Growers Association Dave Moore.

I'd like to thank them and all of you for standing beside CWA today to celebrate National Agriculture Day. 25 years ago California Women for Agriculture was organized to educate urban consumers about the importance of agriculture. Our members devote countless hours throughout the state of California educating young people and old people alike about how their food is grown. And when we discovered that Disney was creating Bountiful Valley Farm, we thought it was a contribution that could not go unrecognized. So Jill will you please join me.

On behalf of farmers and ranchers throughout the state of California we would like to thank the Disneyland Resort for recognizing the contribution that our industry has made to America. We believe that Bountiful Valley Farm will be an excellent public service, as you will educate generations of people from around the world about how their food is grown. Thank you very much.

This is our new project with California Women for Agriculture. It is a poster that will go to children in elementary schools teaching them about the five food groups and the importance of fruits and vegetables.

And now will you please help me in welcoming the leader of agriculture in California our Secretary of the Department of Food and Agriculture, William J Lyons, Jr.

Bill Lyons
Thank you, Ellen. Not only is it a great honor to be here today but it gives me great pleasure to declare March 21st National Agriculture Day. It is truly a pleasure to be here at Disney's California Adventure. As a representative of the nation's largest food and agricultural economy I am pleased that the attention has been focused on California's rich agricultural heritage through the Bountiful Valley Farm and Golden Vine Winery. The heart of California's agricultural community is located in the state's great Central Valley. While agriculture's story may not be as gripping as what is happening over the state's other valley, Silicon or in Hollywood, agriculture in the Golden State is a living treasure and a natural wonder. Under Governor Gray Davis' leadership the California Department of Food and Agriculture is utilizing the best that science and technology has to offer so California's agricultural community can flourish and prosper as never before. And together, through awareness campaigns such as National Agriculture Day and through fun and education opportunities such as those offered here at Disney's California Adventure, we can tell the amazing story of California's bountiful harvest. So remember, if it's for breakfast, or for lunch or for dinner, it was probably grown here in California.

And I now invite Jill Bolton to the podium. On behalf of Governor Gray Davis and our agricultural community I wish to thank the Disneyland Resort for raising awareness about the important role that agriculture plays in our economy and everyday lives. We present this message from the agricultural community, "California - Taste the Sunshine"

Thank you.
