His greatest gift to the world was by "dimensionalizing" the story. |
Eric Robison is a former Imagineer and current, designer and filmmaker. In addition to being one of the most prolific and popular fine artists for Disney, he's done work for MCA Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Eric wrote the following about Walt:
Throughout time man has needed storytellers: to teach us; to comfort us and/or transport us into different worlds of fantasy and imagination. I think that walt has been dubbed one of the world's greatest teller's of story...because he dimensionalized it.
Man used to gather together around riverbanks, piazzas, or campfires to listen to myths and legends. Walt gave us a new place to gather:... the themed park; where every turn of a street corner is the opportunity to really live in a story....or dream. Walt embraced technology which bred an "untraditional" medium of telling while remaining "traditional" in the story itself.
In my opinion: His greatest gift to the world was by "dimensionalizing" the story... He allowed us to live in the story... In a place called Disneyland.
For me personally: While working at Show Quality Services behind Pirates of the Carribean; I used to find excuses to go into the park from the design offices. It was the greatest job in the world to know that outerspace, and caves filled with treasure, and a haunted New Orleans mansion were only footsteps away..everyday.
Happy Birthday Walt!!!!!!!!!!!!
