Next we move to installation, test and adjust. Once an attraction has been installed it undergoes rigorous testing of the show and ride systems before the first guest or cast member is every allowed to ride.

Operation Excellence is our next phase. Cast Members receive extensive training in the specifics of the ride and general operation principles before they are allowed to operate the attraction. Furthermore, each Cast Member must undergo and pass a knowledge and proficiency assessment for the specific attraction they are going to operate. Once an attraction is open safety becomes a partnership with our guest. We utilize a variety of guest communication tools to inform our park visitors of how to enjoy their experience safely. Maintaining safety is an everyday, ongoing mission. Maintenance continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, each attraction is inspected every single night for safety before it can open the next day. Finally our aggressive oversight and compliance program verifies that Disney meets or exceeds extensive regulatory requirements and our own stringent standards.

There’s a lot more in the report on safety that I won’t go through in detail, but you can read through that. Right now, today, joining me on this mission and overseeing the processes here at the Disneyland Resort is our director of ride and show engineering for the Disneyland Resort, Rich Langhorst.

Rich and I will be taking you on a short tour in just a moment of some of the safety measures we’ve put in place here at the Disneyland Resort. I look forward to working with Rich, our Disney executives, our outstanding cast and experts in maintenance, safety and engineering across our worldwide operations to make our safety programs here even better.
