President Obama recently signed into law the nation’s first-ever travel promotion program, which could generate up to $650 million in annual travel spending for California, as well as create 6,500 new jobs and $100 million in tax revenue each year for the state. Designed to attract more international travelers to the U.S., the Walt Disney Company worked extensively to make this legislation a reality. The project came about when Jay Rasulo, senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of Disney, challenged his fellow travel leaders four years ago to secure America’s position as a premier travel destination. “Today, America extends a heartfelt ‘Welcome’ to the rest of the world,” said Rasulo, who along with several other Disney executives partnered with other travel industry leaders and legislators to advocate for the new law. “It is a great example of the innovative solutions government and industry can create when they work together toward a common goal.”
