Walt Disney Records’ Disney Pearl label presents “Everybody Wants To Be A Cat: Disney Jazz Volume 1” — a thirteen track album featuring classic Disney melodies performed by a who’s who of contemporary jazz stars and up-and-comers.
You can hear audio samples from each of the album’s thirteen tracks at the official site
The project began two years when Jason Olaine was presented a 600 song collection of Disney tunes ranging from animated classics to modern hits. He was asked to assemble today’s best and brightest musicians to bring these familiar melodies to life in whatever new arrangements and styles they selected.
Musicians range from jazz heavyweight Dave Brubeck who recorded a full album of Disney music “Dave Digs Disney” in 1967 to Nikki Yanofsky, who’s still a teenager.
From the album’s liner notes — “It’s exceedingly rare that one finds this range of talent on one jazz album. If one desired an accurate measure of today’s scene in all its flavors and formats, here it is on one disc.”— Ashley Kahn, jazz historian/author, teaches music history & journalism at New York University.
