Oakland City Councilwoman-at-large Rebecca Kaplan is trying to lure George Lucas to build his Cultural Arts Museum in Oakland after the Presidio decided not to move forward with building it at the Mid-Crissy Field site. The councilwoman said, ““I am excited to inform you that your dream could be a reality in Oakland. Our city has sites that could meet you needs for space, style and location.” She hopes that the Star Wars creator would consider building at the site of the Kaiser Convention Center which closed in 2006.
David Perry, a spokesman for George Lucas says, “I am quite sure I will go over and take a look but it is not an indication of anything other than that we are so humbled by everyone that has contacted us. I would say that at the moment our plate is full with other options. … I don’t want to lead anyone on, we are looking at current options on the table.”
