The Orlando Sentinel’s Jason Garcia is reporting that a Disney-backed bill that changes the state’s theme park ticket law passed the Florida House of Representatives. The bill passed the state Senate last week. Governor Rick Scott is expected to sign the bill making it a law.
The bill makes reselling a multi day or multi-park theme park ticket a second-degree misdemeanor instead of first-degree. A second offense would be a felony. The bill also expands the definition of tickets to include wristbands so that Disney’s MagicBands are covered by the legislation as well.
The identical bill failed to pass last year following objections by Republican Senator Tom Lee. This year, he agreed to sponsor the bill in the Senate following Disney’s $10,000 donation to a fundraising association backed by Lee.
