ESPN and Disney Networks Rank High Among Cable Viewers Perceived Value

In Beta Research Corp’s annual Cable Subscriber Study, cable and telco TV subscribers named ESPN as the top network for perceived value among network viewers, marking nine of the past ten studies where ESPN was ranked no. 1 or no. 2. Additionally, 23 percent of all respondents named ESPN among their Top Five Favorite Networks (up from 20 percent in 2013), tied for no. 1 overall and ranked in the top five for the past ten years. ESPN was also tied as the top network for viewer satisfaction, based on average satisfaction scores among viewers.

Overall, four of the top ten networks for perceived value among viewers are part of the Disney and ESPN Media Networks portfolio, including ESPN (no. 1), Disney Junior (no. 5), ESPN2 (no. 6) and Disney Channel (tied at no. 9). Additionally, ESPN2 ranked tied for sixth among network viewers for perceived value, fourth among heavy internet users and seventh among heavy social media users. ESPNU also ranked tied for 11th for perceived value among basic networks, up from 15th last year.

Results from the June 2014 Beta Cable Subscriber Study were generated from an online survey across a national sample of cable and telco TV subscribers. The purpose of the study was to determine awareness of basic cable channels and the quality, satisfaction, and importance of basic cable networks.
