While Hasbro is exploring the acquisition of DreamWorks Animation, an analyst says that Disney must bless the deal if it is to move forward. Steph Wissink, senior analyst at Piper Jaffray said, “Disney would have to sign off or bless this deal. It is too big of a portion of Hasbro’s business to put that piece at risk, and I think it would be a game changer.”
It is estimated that Disney franchises, including Marvel and Star Wars, make up 25 to 30 percent of Hasbro’s business. Recently, Hasbro was named as the new licensee for Disney Princess dolls.
At one point Hasbro was rumored to be an acquisition target for Disney, but that deal never materialized.
