ESPN analyst and veteran NBA executive Tom Penn has agreed to a multi-year extension with ESPN. Penn regularly contributes front office and basketball operations expertise to SportsCenter, NBA Coast to Coast, NBA Tonight and additional studio programming. He also provides extensive analysis during ESPN’s exclusive coverage of the NBA Draft.
“Tom brings a unique perspective that you can’t get anywhere else,” said Tim Corrigan, ESPN senior coordinating producer. “We look forward to finding more opportunities which utilize his talents.”
Lakers at Rockets Nov. 19
Additionally, Penn will debut as a contributor to NBA game coverage with play-by-play voice Dave Pasch and analyst Hubie Brown on Wednesday, Nov. 19, as the Houston Rockets host the Los Angeles Lakers at 9:30 p.m. ET. Penn will interview Rockets general manager Daryl Morey to provide the fans with a behind-the-scenes look at basketball operations in the NBA. Penn will lend insight throughout the telecast on analytics and how they’re being used by NBA teams.
Penn joined ESPN in 2010 after four seasons in Portland as vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager of the Trail Blazers. In that role, he negotiated player contracts, structured player trades, evaluated talent and managed day-to-day basketball operations. Previously, Penn served as assistant general manager and legal counsel of the Memphis Grizzlies where he worked closely with legendary NBA executive Jerry West in player and team related matters.
