A jury has found that Walt Disney World discriminated against a security cast member however she will not receive monetary damages. Camelia Joseph sued saying she was descriminated against when she applied for a job as an emergency coordinator in 2010. According to the suit, she did not get the role which was given to a white cast member with less experience and education.
While the jury ruled that Disney discriminated against Joseph, a Haitian woman, they also found that she would not have gotten the role even if discrimination had not occurred. Because of this, she was not rewarded any monetary damages. Disney will have to pay for her legal fees.
Joseph’s attorney Jerry Girley said that other cast members have reached out to him seeking out legal action against Disney. He currently represents another cast member whose case is pending.
A Disney spokesperson said, “We have a longstanding policy against workplace discrimination and believe none occurred here. We are pleased the jury awarded no damages.”
