Today, Disney announced that the long-running Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular will be leaving the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure to make way for an all-new Frozen musical. Following over 14,000 performances, Aladdin, Jasmine, The Genie, and others will be vacating the theater after January 10, 2016.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, the new Frozen show will, “immerse you in the world of Frozen as never before, with elaborate costumes and sets, stunning special effects and surprising scenic transformations.” The blog also quoted Portfolio Creative Entertainment Executive, Dana Harrel, as saying, “Our stage production of Frozen will stay true to the heart and soul of the film. Anna and Elsa will carry the audience on an emotional journey that includes show-stopping production numbers and a few unique theatrical twists. We can’t wait for everyone to see it!”
For Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular, this will mark the end of a 13-year run in the theater. It was previously announced that the fan-favorite would be leaving to make way for a Toy Story musical in 2010, but those plans were later scrapped.
The Disney Parks Blog says Aladdin will be playing multiple times daily until the end of its run in January so that fans can get their last viewings in. The Frozen-inspired musical will open sometime in summer 2016.
