Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch announced on his Tumblr that his beloved Disney XD show would be ending sometime next year after a two-season run. That leaves only two episodes left, “Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality” and “Weirdmageddon III,” which will make up the series finale.
In his announcement, Hirsch emphasised that the show is not being cancelled and that ending it is “100% my choice.” He went on to say, “Its [sic] something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”
In true Gravity Falls fashion, Hirsch concluded his post with a humorous FAQ (frequently asked question) section including everything from “Is this a prank? You’re a real prankster, you are!” to “Are they going to make a third season without you? Will it be called ‘Gravity Falls Babies: The New Class: Generations?'” Still, Hirsch insists that there are no plans for another season of the show.
There is still no planned date for the final episodes to air but we will be sure to let you know when there is.
