In the wake of recent tragedies, shootings and attacks throughout the world, Disney has installed metal detectors as part of their security checkpoints at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Reports indicate that randomly selected guests will pass through the detectors while others will go through the normal bag check procedures. “We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate,” a statement released by Disney said.
Prior to this addition, security had already been increased at both domestic resorts with guests seeing more officers including K-9 units roaming high-profile areas. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Universal Studios and SeaWorld also installed new detectors today and that the Disney Springs AMC will have at least one detector for today’s Star Wars screenings.
Disney has also announced a set of rule changes in an effort to keep their guests safe including banning those older than 14 from wearing costumes including on Halloween party nights. Additionally, Disney is discontinuing the sale of toy guns at their resorts. The new resort rules can be found here.
