A Walt Disney World employee filed a lawsuit with the Orange County Circuit Court late last week against Disney. According to the Orlando Sentinel Helena Mobley, who has worked for the company for nearly 24 years, claims she was passed over for a promotion because her husband is black.
Mobley had previously filed a discrimination complaint with Disney’s employee relations. She claims that, as a result of the complaint, she was no longer allowed to work in security anymore and transferred to custodial.
From the Sentinel:
After Mobley filed a discrimination complaint with employee relations, according to the lawsuit, an executive told her she could not work in the security division anymore. She ended up taking a job as a custodial administrative assistant. “The Security positions are highly coveted and high-status positions within the company,” her lawsuit says. “Conversely, Custodial and Housekeeping divisions are the least favored positions.”
As the Sentinel notes, the eighth in a string of lawsuits filed by former security employees. However, only one has resulted in victory, although the jury in that case awarded no damages. Four cases, including Mobley’s, are still pending.
