While we already know that Disney intends to release a new Star Wars film every year, they haven’t always been the most forthright when it comes to what spin-offs they have in the pipeline. It was only recently that the studio finally confirmed that Alden Ehrenreich would star as a young Han Solo in an upcoming film and now the New York Daily News is reporting that the project could become a trilogy.
As an “insider” told the publication, “There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.” Another source added, “They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”
The Han Solo film is set to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller who helmed The Lego Movie. Disney’s first Star Wars Story film will arrive this December in the form of Rogue One.
