The Star Wars franchise means an awful lot to a lot of people. As a result, it has frequently been at the heart of requests made by those concerned that they won’t be around to witness the next chapter. In fact, the 2009 film Fanboys told a fictional tale about a group of friends trying to break into Skywalker Ranch so that their terminally ill friend could screen The Phantom Menace. Then last year the friends and family of Daniel Fleetwood started an online campaign for him to see The Force Awakens as his dying wish (which was fulfilled).
Now ScreenRant reports that Star Wars mega fan Neil Hanvey was afforded to chance to watch Rogue One before sadly passing soon afterwards. The screening, which according to a Facebook post happened on Monday, August 22nd, was the end result of a campaign loved ones started after Hanvey learned he only had a few months left to live
The next day, the hospice posted this message:
A message from Neil Hanvey’s wife, Andrea. ‘On behalf of all our family we would like to thank everyone who has passed on their condolences following Neil’s death last night. We would also like to thank the tens of thousands of people who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign. All the messages of love during the past week have given us a great deal of comfort during a very difficult time. We would also like to thank everyone at St Michael’s Hospice, especially Amy Duncan, without who #RogueOneWish would not have happened. All donations at Neil’s funeral will go to the Hospice’s Family Support team and will be used to fund work with children and young people. An online donation page will be set-up shortly.
Our condolences to Andrea and the rest of Neil’s family.
