As CNBC reports, Nielsen is standing by its calculation showing that Disney-owned ESPN lost 621,000 in a single month. The ratings company says that an extensive review has determined that their data was “accurate as originally released.” Walt Disney Company stock is down as a result of these findings.
When asked for comment, Disney told CNBC they felt the subscriber loss figure was a “historic anomaly for the industry and inconsistent with much more moderated trends observed by other respected third party analysts.” The also argued that that the data does not measure new distribution methods, saying that they hope to “work with Nielsen to capture this growing market in future reports.”
