In a feature saluting those still working in Hollywood while be in their 90’s, Dick Van Dyke revealed that he will be seen in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. The sequel to the Disney classic takes place 20 years after the original, so odds are that he will not return as either Bert or Mr. Dawes Sr.
He also revealed that fellow Disney Legend Angela Lansbury will be in the film as well. No word what role she will be portraying as she was not in the original film with her famous Disney roles being Eglantine Price in Bedknobs & Broomsticks and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Perhaps she will be investigating the mysterious death of Mr. Dawes Sr.
In the feature, Van Dyke discusses his time working with Walt saying, “There was a spirit about that thing from the very beginning. Walt [Disney] had me in, and I heard the score and saw the scenes storyboarded on a wall, and I just knew.”
Among the other honorees in The Hollywood Reporter feature is Disney Legend Betty White whose biggest Disney credit is portraying Rose Nylund in Golden Girls.
Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release on December 25, 2018. It stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and Moana’s Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack.
