This morning, nominations for the 89th Academy Awards — A.K.A. the Oscars — were announced. Disney, which enjoyed a record-breaking box office year in 2016, earned several nominations for their films in technical categories as well as one in Best Original Song. Additionally, Walt Disney Animation scored two Best Animated Film nomination slots while Pixar picked up a nod for Animated Short. And, although it’s not a Disney-released film, it is worth noting that Life, Animated, which shares the story of how Owen Suskind was able to communicate with his family through Disney classics, was nominated for Best Documentary Feature, running against an ESPN film of all things.
