Today — National Umbrella Day, appropriately enough — production of Mary Poppins Returns began. The new film, starring Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and an appearance by Dick Van Dyke, began shooting in the United Kingdom under the direction of Rob Marshall.
This sequel/spin-off of the 1964 classic is apparently set in the 1930s and featuring grown-up versions of Jane and Michael Banks. Mary Poppins Returns is currently slated to open Christmas Day 2018.
