With the current version of Disney Junior — Live on Stage at Disney California Adventure set to close next month, today the Disney Parks Blog is sharing a few details about its replacement. The new show titled Disney Junior Dance Party will open May 26th in the same space as the current attraction. According to the Parks Blog, the new show will be “a high-energy, live show experience that takes its inspiration from the most popular Disney Junior shows on TV, including the new series Mickey and the Roadster Racers, as well as Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First and The Lion Guard. The show is set to include live appearances from some of your favorite characters, fun music from Disney Junior and much more.”
The replacement of Disney Junior — Live on Stage comes with some controversy. A recent story published in the Los Angeles Times found puppeteers employed by the show accusing Disney of closing the attraction in retaliation for their union activities. However, a spokesperson for Disney denied that accusation, saying that choice to exclude puppets from the new production was made in a effort to refresh the show’s content more quickly and easily. While Disney did not annouce a closing date for the current show in their Parks Blog post, the Times reported an April 9th closing.
