The Walt Disney Studios, along with their counterparts, lit up their studios this evening in support of LA 2024 and to welcome the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission to the City of Angels.
The Disney water tower were among dozens of Angeleno institutions illuminated in the colors of LA’s iconic sunsets and the LA 2024 Angel logo to mark the IOC’s arrival. The dynamic show of support reaffirms LA 2024’s promise to partner with the city’s creative and entertainment gurus to work with the Olympic and Paralympic family to help them inspire young people from around the world to engage and stay in sport.
LA 2024 CEO Gene Sykes said: “The support of these Hollywood studios and LA’s cultural icons underlines what a spectacular setting Los Angeles would be for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024. This diverse city offers an incredible variety of entertainment, cultural attractions and natural treasures, and with the power of Hollywood storytelling we will share them all with the world in 2024. The Games should be first and foremost the ultimate celebration of sport and athletes. We believe Los Angeles will be a magnificent stage for the celebration.”
Over the three days of the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit to Los Angeles, the LA 2024 bid team will continue to demonstrate its plans to harness California’s creativity and imagination to connect the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the future.
Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO and LA 2024 Vice Chair Bob Iger said: “LA is the creative capital of the United States. It is a city where technology, entertainment and new media meet and create globally relevant, captivating content. This industry is constantly changing, but the City of Angels will always be at its forefront thanks to the pioneering people and companies who choose to make their home here. That is what makes LA such an exciting environment to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Walt Disney once said, ‘Times and conditions change so rapidly that we must keep our aim constantly focused on the future.’ It is a philosophy that guides the Walt Disney Company today, and a philosophy that is fundamental to every aspect of the LA 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games concept.”
