Ahead of their upfronts presentation next week, ABC is starting to form their fall lineup. This means picking up returning shows for another season, greenlighting pilots to series, and letting a few shows go. The latest news is that Modern Family has not only been renewed for a season 9 but also a season 10. Deadline reports the renewal comes after new deals have been closed for the show’s core cast.
On the other end of the spectrum, ABC has canceled Last Man Standing after six seasons. While the Tim Allen-led sitcom was never the biggest rating draw in its time on the air, it performed relatively well considering its Friday timeslot. But, Deadline notes that the network was unable to come to an agreement with 20th Century Fox (who also produces Modern Family) over licensing fees. In fact, the show has been a perennial last minute addition in past seasons.
Stay tuned as more news regarding ABC’s fall lineup is sure to arrive soon.
