The Middle
ABC’s The Middle will end after nine season. The final season will premiere Tuesday, October 3. In an interview with EW executive producer Eileen Heisler said, “We sat down with the cast at the end of last year. It was important to have a year to say goodbye. We want to be able to tell all the stories.”
The creative team had ideas about how to end the series for a couple of years, but they further developed their thoughts through last season. The Middle debuted in 2009 as part of a new comedy block, it was the same year that ABC’s hit Modern Family debuted as well.
With ABC having found its footing with comedies such as The Goldbergs and Black-ish, it allows the network to sunset a long-time staple and provide a slot for new shows.
