If it wasn’t already clear from Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s shocking departure from the Han Solo film, Lucasfilm has a specific vision for their films that they want their directorial talent to adhere to. Unfortunately, this can lead to creative differences. Now that dark side of filmmaking is showing itself again as Lucasfilm has announced that Colin Trevorrow will no longer direct Star Wars Episode IX. A statement posted on StarWars.com reads, “Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
Unlike with the Han Solo film, Episode IX is not currently shooting, so it seems unlikely that a replacement will be named with as much haste. However, it will be interesting to see who ultimately takes the helm of this “final” chapter… and if they stay there.
