It’s been a while since we’ve heard much about Maleficent 2 — to the point where, due to some interesting Angelina Jolie interviews, we wondered whether the project would even move forward. However, Deadline now reports that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is in talks to helm the film. This comes after Jolie reaffirmed that she was returning for the fairytale follow-up, saying “We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel.” That script is reportedly being written by Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton. If Rønning doe come on board, it would be just one of several upcoming projects for the director, who is also attached to an adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel Micro as well as the film Origins for Paramount.
