Bob Iger tweeted his support of Oprah following her speech at the Golden Globes where she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award. “I am so proud of #Oprah for her guts, her power, and her voice. ‘Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have…..’ ‘A new day is on the horizon… when nobody has to say me too, again!’ AMEN!”
Following her speech, many believed that she was setting the stage for a 2020 Presidential bid. Bob Iger had been rumored to also be considering a run for President of the United States, but when the deal to acquire 21st Century Fox was announced, Iger extended his contract. While Iger did not say that he would endorse her for President, the tweet could be seen as implying that he would.
Iger has had interactions with politicians before. He criticized Bernie Sanders for statements regarding cast members and he was on President Trump’s Policy Advisory Committee before resigning due to Trump’s stance on the Paris Accords.
Bob Iger presented Oprah with the Disney Legend Award at the 2017 D23 Expo. Oprah will be seen in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time this March.
