Disney Junior has begun production on an animated adventure series for young kids about The Rocketeer. The series is set to debut in 2019. The series is based on Dave Stevens’ comic books and follows the story of Kit, a young girl who opens a surprise package on her birthday revealing her destiny as the next Rocketeer.
In the story, Kit, under a secret identity, will take on her new responsibility to save the day—accompanied by her gadget-minded best friend, Tesh, and airplane mechanic uncle, Ambrose. We’ll be following their epic journey every step of the way!
Joe D’Ambrosia, senior vice president of Original Programming for Disney Junior, said, “We are very excited to introduce The Rocketeer to our young Disney Junior audience. The vast storytelling found in the original comic books provides the perfect opportunity to create an exciting new adventure series told from a young girl superhero perspective that the whole family can enjoy together.”
Each episode is packed with two epic 11-minute adventures, as well as an original song.
Disney released a feature film based on The Rocketeer in 1991. It was directed by Captain America: The First Avenger‘s Joe Johnston
