In the last 10 years, movie audiences have been treated to live action adaptations of their favorite Disney animated films — most recently Cinderella, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Beauty and the Beast. Now it’s Aladdin’s turn, and like Beauty and the Beast before him, his story is part musical. Fans are no doubt familiar with composer Alan Menken who worked on the original movie. For this updated version, Oscar nominated writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (best known for La La Land and The Greatest Showman) had the opportunity to work with the legendary composer to write a few new songs for the film. According to The Playlist, the gentlemen were interviewed by Variety and quoted as saying, “We got to collaborate with one of our heroes, Alan Menken. We collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for Aladdin.”
Aladdin will arrive in theaters May 24, 2019.
