Pixar’s motion pictures have always embraced the emotions, relationships, victories, and heartaches of real life in their excellently told stories. They touch on things all of us can relate to and they do so in a beautiful way. Starting with A Bug’s Life, Pixar has also shown a short film at the beginning of each of its theatrical releases and, not surprisingly, these mini movies are filled with that same magic. Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive first look at the upcoming short, Bao, which will debut in front of The Incredibles 2 on June 15th. Bao is a story about a Chinese-Canadian woman who’s become an empty-nester. As she suffers through her loneliness, she finds a new chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings comes to life. The story about the little steam bun baby comes from Pixar’s first short film female director, Domee Shi who drew inspiration from her own upbringing.
Bao debuts in front of The Incredibles 2 in theaters nationwide on June 15th.
