Keyless Entry Coming to Walt Disney World Resort

Walt Disney World has announced that keyless entry is coming to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Guests will be able to use the My Disney Experience app to open the door. Guests will select the “Unlock Door” option and place their phone against the MagicBand reader. Guests can use both the app and their MagicBand to open their door to use whichever is most convenient at the time.

The app will also open other “doors” that their MagicBand would open such as pools, fitness centers, elevators and club level lounges. Guests will be able to opt-in for mobile entry through the check-in process.

Disney released a video showcasing the app in action.

MagicBands or key cards will still be required for park entry, FastPass+ redemption, room charges and more. That being said, it is possible that using your phone for other “touch” transactions could be rolled out in the future. This would be a major win for those that dislike wearing MagicBands.

No timeline was given to the roll-out of this new feature and when it might expand beyond Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
