A new live-action/CG hybrid film from Walt Disney Studios has begun production. The One and Only Ivan is a family tale based on the award winning children’s book by Katherine Applegate.
What we know:
- Production of the film is now underway at the Pinewood Studios outside London.
- The movie will be directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You) and the screenplay will be written by actor and comedy writer Mike White (Pitch Perfect 3, The School of Rock).
- Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), the late Allison Shearmur (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Brigham Taylor (Christopher Robin) are producing the film.
- The One and Only Ivan stars Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Ramon Rodriquez (Iron Fist), Ariana Greenblatt (A Bad Moms Christmas), Indira Varma (Exodus: Gods and Kings), and Eleanor Matsuura (Wonder Woman). The film will also feature the voice talents of Angelina Jolie, Sam Rockwell, Helen Mirren, Danny DeVito, and Brooklynn Prince.
- Applegate’s award winning book is based on a true story about a talented gorilla and other animals who share a communal habitat at a suburban shopping mall. Applegate explores themes of friendship, and the significance of the places we call home.
- A release date for the film has not been announced at this time.
The young stars of the film:
- Ariana Greenblatt made her Disney Channel debut as Daphne, the youngest child of seven in Stuck in the Middle.
- The energetic and adorable Greenblatt joined the MCU this year. portraying Young Gamora during flashbacks in Avengers: Infinity War.
- Indie film fans will recognize Brooklynn Prince as Moonee from last year’s critically acclaimed, The Florida Project. Speaking of The Florida Project, Kyle interviewed the film’s co-writer (and huge Disney fan), Chris Bergoch following the release of the movie.
- Star Wars actress, Daisy Ridley popped in to surprise Prince during an interview and both girls seemed to be having a grand time.
