Bobcat Goldthwait, the voice of Pain in Disney’s Hercules, asked that his voice be removed from an unannounced version of World of Color called “World of Color – Villainous.” Presumably, this would have been a Halloween version of the show. Currently World of Color is under an extended refurbishment and was announced to return “towards the end of the year.” It is unknown if the Halloween show was scheduled to debut in 2018 or if the refurbishment would have pushed it to 2019.
Goldthwait’s request is due to Disney’s firing of James Gunn after offensive tweets that Gunn had deleted were discovered. Goldthwait references his own shocking past as a reason to not be “hypocritical” by including his voice. He also references his Hercules co-star James Wood as well as Powder. That film was released in 1995 by Hollywood Pictures, a division of Disney, and was directed by convicted child abuser Victor Salva.
Among Goldthwait’s other Disney work is Nosy is Lilo & Stitch: The Series, XL in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and the Adrenal Gland in Epcot’s Cranium Command.
James Gunn has also seen support from others. He was in pre-production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 when Disney separated him quickly after the tweets resurfaced.
