Some of the Cast Members who drive Disney’s Minnie Vans at Walt Disney World have filed statements with the National Labor Relations Board, saying they don’t wish to be part of the Teamsters Union.
- As the Orlando Sentinel reports, The local Teamsters had asked to include the Minnie Van drivers in their union.
- In May, a regional director of the labor board sided with the union, although Disney is now appealing that decision.
- Now, some of the drivers in question are asking the Relations Board to be included in the dispute as they wish to be excluded from the union.
- Those opposed to joining said they feared that joining the union would cause them to lose their seniority and potentially some income.
- The drivers are being represented by the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation.
- Meanwhile, the Teamsters union is arguing it is too late in the process for the drivers to join the case now.
- Incidentally, this news comes just days after it was announced that the Minnie Vans service was changing its pricing structure from a flat fee to a base rate and mileage-based fare.
What they’re saying
- Mary Hogan, Minnie Van driver: “I have never asked Teamsters or any other union to represent me in my job at Disney, nor has Teamsters asked me my views on whether I wanted to be subject to representation.”
