“GMA” Surprises Disney Super-Fan with Trip to All Disney Resorts

This morning a school teacher and Disney super-fan received the surprise of a lifetime when Mickey Mouse and ABC meteorologist, Ginger Zee, and showed up at her school. Patrice Jenkins, a lifelong Disney fan will join Zee on an incredible trip around the globe to visit all six Disney Resorts in honor of Mickey’s 90th birthday.

What’s happening:

  • Patrice Jenkins is a teacher from Hinsdale, Illinois and a lifelong Disney fan. This year she’ll be celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday in style by visiting all six Disney resorts. .
  • Even though Jenkins is a self-described suer-fan, she didn’t plan the whirlwind trip. This morning, Mickey Mouse and ABC meteorologist, Ginger Zee surprised her in her classroom with the exciting news.
  • Jenkins will join Zee on the around-the-world adventure to visit a new Disney destination every day.
  • Starting on Monday, November 12 through Friday, November 16, fans can tune into Good Morning America to see which Resort Jenkins and Zee are visiting.
  • GMA will highlight the best moments of their trip as they count down to Mickey’s big day on November 18

  • Patrice Jenkins on her fandom: “biggest Disney superfan because I love Mickey.”
  • Jenkins on what Disney means to her: “To me Disney means magic. When I think of Disney, I think about dreams coming true and imagining a world that is a faraway place where there’s no pain, no suffering and you can be somebody else. When I was younger I didn’t have a chance to go to Disney World. At the time my parents couldn’t afford it. But my parents did their best to bring Disney into our home.”

Jenkins did eventually make it to Walt Disney World where she and her husband were married.

  • Jenkins on her wedding: “We had a Mickey cake. On our cake it – was three layers — Mickey was all over it in gold. Mickey was at our wedding to give us the first dance, to talk to guests.”
  • On bringing Disney into the classroom: “It’s important to incorporate Disney themes because students have the opportunity to dream. I think in today’s time it’s important to groom our students to become innovative thinkers.”
