Investigators discovered three monkeys in a van parked at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, according to ClickOrlando.
- The three monkeys were pets belonging to a couple visiting the area from Texas.
- The couple told authorities they had been sneaking the monkeys into their hotel room each night, though it was not specified which hotel they were staying at.
- The couple was visiting family at the Grand Floridian Resort at the time the monkeys were found.
- Security was notified of the presence of the monkey when someone informed them they heard animal noises coming from the van.
- Security saw animal crates in the van and called the Sheriff's Office.
- Florida Fish and Wildlife investigators found that the animals were well taken care of and made no allegations of neglect or abuse.
- The couple informed authorities that one of the monkeys was diabetic and received insulin shots several times daily, which is why they thought it was best to leave the monkeys in the van while they had dinner in the resort.
- The couple did receive several criminal citations, including not having the proper license to possess the monkeys.
- The animals were not confiscated because they were being cared for and the couple promised to immediately leave Florida with them.
