Idris Elba is reportedly in final negotiations to star in 21st Century Fox’s Mouse Guard, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- Mouse Guard will be an adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic.
- The film will be directed by Wes Ball, the director of the popular Maze Runner films.
- Elba, who portrayed Heimdall in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is joined by Black Panther star Andy Serkis and Maze Runner star Thomas Brodie-Sangster.
- Mouse Guard is being described as “Game of Thrones with mice.”
- The comics and graphic novel, written by David Petersen, are set in a medieval world and tell the story of an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of their realm. Their enemies range from predators such as foxes and eagles to other rodents.
- The film will be produced by Matt Reeves along with Boom!’s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy as well as Joe Hartwick Jr.
- Should he officially sign on, Elba would play Celanawe, a once legendary champion who is now thought long-gone.
- Serkis will portray the villain of the film, the Guard’s blacksmith known as Midnight who turns against it.
- Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, a young member of the guard who will have to prove his bravery.
- The film is scheduled to begin production in May.
