Reginald Hudlin, producer of Django Unchained and co-creator of the popular Black Panther character Shuri, has reportedly been tapped to direct an untitled sports drama for Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- The new film will be based on the true story of Ray Ray McElrathbey, a Clemson University football player who raised his 11-year-old brother on campus during his freshman year at the school in 2006 due to his mother’s struggles with addiction.
- In addition to his work on films, Hudlin has also served as a comic writer and has most notable worked on Marvel’s Black Panther, for which he created the fan-favorite character Shuri.
- Randy McKinnon is reportedly signed on to write the yet-untitled film.
- Mark Ciardi, who has worked on past sports dramas like The Rookie and Million Dollar Arm, has signed on to produce.
