Bill Condon is reportedly teaming up with Disney for a musical version of A Christmas Carol, titled Marley. The reimaging would be told from the perspective of Jacob Marley.
What’s happening:
- The Hollywood Reporter is writing that Beauty and the Beast’s Bill Condon may once again work with Disney, this time on a musical version of A Christmas Carol.
- If it wasn’t obvious, Condon’s musical is a retelling of the Charles Dickens holiday classic. Titled Marley, this reimagining of the novel is told from the perspective of Jacob Marley—Scrooge’s deceased business partner.
- In the classic Scrooge, is visited by a ghostly and tormented Marley who warns his partner of the upcoming visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
- At this time, Disney has not greenlit the project however, Condon has already written the script and would direct the film.
- Condon also has his soundtrack prepared, tapping veteran lyricist and composer Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Broadway’s Wicked), to write the music for the feature.
